The summer is flying by, just like every season seems to. But I will say, this summer is sitting different. Maybe it’s because I turned 40. Maybe it’s because I was craving a slower pace… a time to reflect. A pause.
The truth is, the pause came without me asking for it. It just showed up and wouldn’t move out of the way. As a Type A personality who spends every day multitasking through work and family, I struggled to accept it.
It’s almost like we are programmed to feel like we aren’t allowed to slow down, take a break, post less often, or stop working. We feel like we have to keep moving to ensure tomorrow’s success.
Maybe the pause is what’s needed. Maybe when we step back from the driver’s seat and release control, things actually find their own place. I know God always works like that.
This summer pause has brought long walks, good books, cannonballs in the pool with my kids, journaling, and learning to look inward. I didn’t realize how much I needed it or how refreshed I would feel.
In dance, the pause is essential. The breaths between movements and the moments of stillness are often what make the greatest impact.
For us northerners, there are still a few weeks left… take the pause. It might set you up in ways you never imagined. ♥
